ten Where’s the Gap
October 13, 2010 § 1 Comment
On October 10, I tweeted along with many others about a website where people can go make their own version of the new Gap logo. The site is called Crap Logo, so obviously, not so positive on the Gap side of things. Less than a week after unveiling the new logo, Gap pulled it, reverting back to their original logo.
People mocked it like crazy online. Did Gap do the right thing in pulling their new new logo or did people just need to get used to it?
I think “online critics” really did Gap a favor by expressing their hatred of the new logo. It is far too generic, using Helvetica, like 99% of logos in the developed world. It just seems like something a student would do in High School to imitate all other logos. Just so we’re clear, I’m not saying that I necessarily like Gap’s old logo, I’m just saying that if they’re going to switch it up. They got to really SWITCH IT UP!
Different is good—Even if it’s bad. It’s time to get risky.
