thirteen Kindle: Can the industry utilize?

October 17, 2010 § Leave a comment

The new Amazon Kindle is flying off of shelves. For less than $200, you can have the e-reader, free 3G service, wi-fi, and lots of free books uploaded straight to the Kindle.

As far as I can tell, advertising has yet to assert itself upon the e-book wave. There is no clicking through ads to get to the next page of your book. The only place ads can reach is the web which you can experimentally browse from the Kindle. Will this be something that my generation of incoming strategic planners will be able to tap? I hope so! Maybe this is the beginning of product placement in books with clickable links to the companies website or a dictionary site where readers could look up those words they aren’t sure of. Will Amazon allow any form of ads on the Kindle? Will they be effective or just a nuisance for readers? What do you think?

Very interesting, I’m excited to find out what happens, and maybe even contribute. I want a Kindle!
